Abstract
Standardisation - the process by which actors of the innovation system agree on common specifications/procedures that respond to the needs of business and meet consumer expectations - is an increasingly important channel for technology transfer and knowledge valorisation. Successful standards that meet respective expectations (such as to ensure minimum safety and health requirements of new technologies) are ideally developed already during the R&D phases. Against this backdrop, the European Commission issued in 2023 a code of practice and recommendations for European researchers on how to deal with standardization issues in their R&D projects. Based on a study with 40 case studies of Horizon Europe projects that informed the EC´s Code of Practice, and additional interviews, this submission discusses implications for research support structures in Austria (e.g., TTOs at universities) who want to implement the recommendations.
