The Tourism Institute’s research addresses key challenges and emerging topics in tourism, with a strategic emphasis on consumer behaviour, sustainability and climate change, as well as digital transformation. Particular attention is given to the analysis and design of experiences and offerings in cultural and culinary tourism, especially in relation to restorative experiences, the authenticity of tourism offerings, and transformative experiences. Nature-based tourism also represents a key area of investigation.
Building on this, the research covers sustainable tourism and destination management, with an emphasis on resilience and adaptive capacity in the context of climate change and sustainable development. In addition, digital communication, information and communication technologies (ICT), and artificial intelligence (AI) in tourism are analysed.
