Abstract
This study utilizes an integrated model that combines the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Self-Determination Theory (S.D.T), and Stimulus-Organization-Response Theory (S-O-R) to investigate the impact of gamification and situation (SF) as the stimulus on cognitive evaluation of adopting mobile payment applications in an emerging economy context. The present study used Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in combination with Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to examine the determinants of individuals’ intentions. The study found that gamification has a positive impact on users’ cognitive appraisal and their desire to utilize mobile payment applications. This validates the theoretical model. However, SF cannot make any significant influence. Based on the findings, it is justifiable to conclude that while situational considerations may be the primary catalyst for the present adoption of m-payment applications, this shift may not be enduring.
